Dishes & DNA

Dishes & DNA   Hereditary Materials   Mitochondria Memoir

One side of this small card is a linoleum cut, the other is a photoengraving of my great grandmother. The photoengraving was made by my mother’s father, Frank McNamara, who worked as a photo engraving retoucher for the Indianapolis News. The same photograph was used for my great grandmother’s obituary.  The dishes were passed down to me from the McNamara side of my family. This print was made for the portfolio  Mitochondria: Wisconsin Women of the Word. 2006, edition of 30.

This portfolio is part of the exhibit “Speaking of Book Arts: Oral Histories from UW-Madison”- available online here.
